Ok, I’ve heard time and time again that character are ALLOWED TO SEEM OOC if they’re insane.
Shut up, you’re wrong.
Writing an insane character is probably one of the most difficult things for a writer to pull off intentionally, let alone unintentionally. If you’re using the ‘not ooc because…
Pinkie isn’t insane. But she is an extreme extrovert who has been known to speak without her filter on more than one occasion. What people see as inconsistencies in Pinkie’s character I see as REAL flaws that REALLY happen in REAL life.
What’s going on with bronies? I thought they watch the show because of the verisimilitude between the characters and how situations are portrayed. I’ve seen more mature handling of situations in this season more than any other. It’s a big part of why I’m here. Pinkie’s actions weren’t malicious. They had a negative impact, yes, but she immediately wanted to alleviate Fluttershy’s fear by blowing it out of proportion. She wanted to make her laugh. To us that seems dumb, but to Pinkie who approaches things from a very particular angle, it’s not such a stretch. She’s naive, not stupid. There is a difference. Naivety can and does lead her to do stupid things, but that’s real. That actually happens. Twilight stopped her in this episode and that was a great thing to see. Having an extreme extrovert get in the face of an extreme introvert is something I think everyone can relate to. Why in the hell is this such a big deal?
Again, contradictions.
It’s similar to calling a character ‘insane’ to justify something.you can’t just call a character ‘naive’ or ‘stupid’ to justify inconsistencies either. She’s been portrayed to have the cognitive capabilities to recognize what is acceptable and what is not, especially around a friend she’s known for over a year.
Pinkie is not an idiot, she’s been consistently portrayed contrary to this notion in earlier seasons. Acting like a goof is all fine and dandy, but she literally forced fluttershy into a corner.
Twice.
Maybe if it was just once, it would have been debatable, but she actively impacted negatively upon her long term friend twice. This means she recognized her approach had a negative impact, and used the exact same approach a second time because the writers think abusing a comedy trope with poor execution is funny.
This isn’t a ‘human flaw’ that we can relate to. This is pinkie pie being portrayed as a complete idiot for no good reason.
Don’t get me wrong, I love almost everything else about this episode, it’s probably top ten material mind you. But I will not vouch that this is good character conveyance, because it’s not.
… again…
Are people forgetting about Griffon the Brush Off, where Pinkie refuses to prank Fluttershy because she know how sensitive the little pegasus is and even the most harmless prank can upset her and that is not what Pinkie wants at all?
ROUND OF APPLAUSE.
DAMMIT YOU RUINED MY POINT FOR MY VIDEO XD
